Wider weather episode
A strong cold front brought showers to the area just after midnight on December 23rd. Precipitation began as rain, but as colder temperatures infiltrated the area, a changeover to snow took place. The front and the showers aligned along the boundary quickly swept through West Virginia by the morning hours of the 23rd, leaving behind one to two inches of snow across the state.
Strong gusty winds along and behind the front added to the concerns of this system. A 54 mile per hour wind gust was measured at the Clarksburg airport as the front passed overhead. Several trees were blown down in northeast West Virginia, as well as one instance of a downed tree in Kanawha County.
