Event narrative

Heavy snow was observed with the Quemazon SNOTEL reporting an estimated 10 inches of snowfall.

Wider weather episode

A strengthening upper level low pressure system tracked west to east from the Pacific over northern New Mexico on January 1st and 2nd. The storm brought healthy amounts of snow mostly to western and northern New Mexico. There were isolated winter storm conditions that accompanied this system with a 10 inch snow report in the Jemez Mountains and an 11 inch snow report in the Tusas Mountains of northern New Mexico. Difficult winter travel conditions were also reported through the northern mountains of New Mexico from snow packed and icy roads.
