Event narrative
High flows on the Raquette River near the Hannawa Falls Dam led to ice breakup on December 25, 2022. Ice became jammed and impounded behind the Hannawa Falls Dam due to slowing flows which led to rapid rises in the river during late morning. Approximately four homes along T-Alexander Drive in the Town of Pierrepoint, NY where affected by high water to the basement and first floor levels, and were subsequently evacuated. No injuries were reported. Water receded by the evening hours.
Wider weather episode
A large and intense storm system tracked through the region from December 23-25, 2022. Heavy rain and snowmelt led to rises on the Raquette River in St. Lawrence County. Some ice breakup was noted, some of which affected portions of the Town of Pierrepoint, NY on the 25th where high water affected several homes.
