Ocean effect snow, on west-southwest flow, which is a rarity, accumulated much of Dec. 24 and into the 25th. Six to nine inches fell by the time it completely ended in the late morning of the 25th. A trained spotter in Edgartown reported 9 inches, 7.5 of which fell prior to 8 PM on the 24th.

Behind a departing storm, a blast of arctic air on southwest winds produced a rare single band of ocean effect snow that affected Cape Cod and the Islands, and especially Martha's Vineyard. Nine inches of ocean-effect snow fell on Martha's Vineyard.
