Event narrative

Widespread roadway flooding occurred in the tidal communities of Cape May County. The flood waters affected vulnerable buildings. The tide gauge at Ocean City reached 6.59 feet MLLW, the tide gauge at Sea Isle City reached 6.96 feet MLLW, the tide gauge at Avalon reached 7.32 feet MLLW, the tide gauge at Stone Harbor reached 7.17 feet MLLW, the tide gauge at Cape May Harbor reached 7.23 feet MLLW, and the tide gauge at the Cape May Ferry Terminal reached 7.81 feet MLLW.

Wider weather episode

Low pressure moved northward from the eastern Carolinas on the 22nd to eastern Pennsylvania on the morning of the 23rd. It was then absorbed by a stronger low moving across the eastern Great Lakes. The system produced moderate to major tidal flooding in New Jersey.
