A strong storm system tracked across the western United States and through the central Plains, bringing snow to much of southwestern and south central South Dakota. The heaviest snow developed across far southern South Dakota, where eight to 16 inches were reported in many areas, with locally higher amounts across far south central South Dakota. Amounts dropped off sharply to the north, with little or no snow across northwestern South Dakota.
