Event narrative

Haines Customs reported heavy snow had fallen through the evening with 6.2 inches measured by 10 pm on the 23rd. By their 7 AM COOP report the next day, snow had changed to rain and compacted down to 5.3 inches.

Wider weather episode

A storm force low and front moved into the gulf from the south causing high winds over portions of the southern panhandle while the northern borders had colder northerly flow to start and snow.
