Event narrative

Haines Customs reported 13.3 inches of snow by 7am on the 3rd and snow had ended, but melted down to 0.52 inches of liquid. Spotter reports from nearby said that light snow began around 1pm on the 2nd and increased through the afternoon with occasional strong gusts. Closer to town snow changed to rain overnight with just a half inch of accumulation.

Wider weather episode

Cold air was in place as a front moved in from the west bringing in warmer air and moisture. White Pass saw accumulating snow, but the upper Chilkat Valley was the big winner.
