Event narrative
High winds developed on the 14th and continued into the evening of the 17th. The Cape Lisburne AWOS reported a peak gust of 96 mph at 1:55 PM on the 16. Winds on the 15th and 16 at Cape Lisburne were frequently over 80 mph. The village of Point Lay saw gusts as high as 50 mph on the 16th.

A low in eastern Russian and high pressure over the eastern Interior tightened the pressure gradient over northwest Alaska.
