Winter Storm — Benzie, Michigan

2022-11-17 · Benzie, Michigan

Wider weather episode

Expansive troughing settled over the Great Lakes for several days, providing varied times of favorable forcing aloft as embedded shortwaves pivoted through the main flow. Weak winds, cold air temperatures, and relatively warm lake surface temperatures also combined to create a favorable environment for mesoscale lows to develop over the open waters. Multiple lows developed over the course of 11/17 and 11/18, the most impressive one dropping 24 inches of snow across portions of Charlevoix and Antrim county over a 12 hour period overnight. Areas across Emmet and Cheboygan counties measured 16 inches of snow with other counties also measuring around 10 inches or more.
