An upper level disturbance, combined with a slow passing Arctic cold front, produced a prolonged period of snowfall from the Black Hills area to southern South Dakota. Strong frontogenesis produced bands of heavier snowfall at times Friday afternoon and night. Snowfall amounts were generally in the three to seven inch range across much of the area, with five to ten inches across south central South Dakota.
