Event narrative
The Trail Ridge Fire began in late August across extreme northwest Beaverhead County, approximately 22 miles northwest of Wisdom, near the Beaverhead/Ravalli County line. 18,138 acres burned across the two counties with the cause of the fire being officially listed as lightning. The fire persisted from late August, through September, and into late October and will also be listed in Storm Data for those respective months.
Wider weather episode
A large wildfire initiated in the Beaverhead-Deerlodge National Forest in late August and persisted into late October. This fire affected both NWS Great Falls and NWS Missoula's areas of responsibility and will also be noted in September and October Storm Data.
