The Mesonet station THORS recorded wind chill values at or below -20 degrees from 2AM to 11AM December 22nd and the Mesonet station AV456 recorded wind chill values at or below -20 degrees from 4AM to 11AM December 22nd.

Wider weather episode

A strong northerly pressure gradient after the passage of an artic frontal boundary facilitated a period of extremely cold to hazardous wind chills, focused the evening of December 21st through the morning of the 22nd.
