Temperatures between zero and ten degrees below zero and wind speeds of 25 to 35 mph resulted in a prolonged period of wind chills colder than 25 degrees below zero. The coldest wind chill observed at the Lawrenceville-Vincennes International Airport (KLWV) was 27 degrees below zero.

A strong low pressure system and its associated cold front moved through the Midwest on December 22nd, 2022. In its wake, frigid temperatures and strong winds resulted in a prolonged period of dangerous wind chills, as cold as 35 degrees below zero, across central Illinois on December 23rd and into the morning of December 24th.
