Event narrative

A total of 5.8 inches of snow fell 4 miles south-southeast of Mayhill. Another observer reported 5.1 inches of snow 3 miles west-northwest of Mayhill.

Wider weather episode

A deep cutoff upper low was moving along the International Border with a deep easterly flow over south-central New Mexico. The deep easterly flow tapped enough moisture to bring close to 6 inches of snow to the eastern slopes of the Sacramento Mountains.
