Event narrative
Winds were sustained at 40 mph for an hour at the Rangely Airport. Additionally, Colorado Highway 40 was closed for several hours due to impacts from blowing snow.
Wider weather episode
Winds increased as yet another upper level trough and associated cold front dropped into the Great Basin. This led to some stronger winds across northwest Colorado. Some stronger sustained wind speeds met high wind criteria, or 40 mph for one or more hours, in the Lower Yampa River Basin.
