A measured wind gust of 66 mph was recorded at a mesonet station located in Eatons Neck, NY at 623 PM Local Standard Time at an elevation of 71 feet. Additionally, a trained spotter reported a large downed tree at the corner of Norwood and New York Avenues in Port Jefferson, NY at 645 PM Local Standard Time.

An arctic cold front passed through the region during the morning of February 3, 2023. Strong cold air advection along with a tightening pressure gradient produced high winds over Southeastern New York during the afternoon and evening hours of this day.
