Mesonet station MTNOR Norris Hill measured a gust of 59 mph. The sensor also measured an hour of sustained winds that averaged 44 mph.
Wider weather episode
A developing surface trough across North-central Montana combined with increasing south to southwesterly flow in the mid levels resulted in a setup for high winds across Southwest Montana, especially in the Madison River Valley. Additionally, heavy snow fell across portions of the area.
