By 646pm on the 11th a retired NWS Employee reported 2 inches of snow had fallen so far. Snow continued to fall through the night with periods of 20 to 40 mph wind gusts early in the morning of the 12th when snow changed to moderate rain between 6-8am. The WSO office estimated 10 inches had fallen later in the day, but that was after being rained on all day and was likely higher.
Wider weather episode
A strong front moved in from the west with a well defined warm sector after a recent cold outflow event resulted in an overrunning snow event for Yakutat and portions of the northern panhandle December 11th into the 12th. Gusty winds occurred followed by a change over to moderate rain.
