Event narrative

A storm total snow of 8 inches fell at Mud Bay. The snow started around 9pm on December 11th with reports of 2.5 to 3.5 inches falling by 11am on the 12th. Then rates became moderate to heavy with another 5 inches falling over the next 6 hours with reports from the airport of 30-40 mph wind gusts.

Wider weather episode

A strong front moved in from the west with a well defined warm sector after a recent cold outflow event resulted in an overrunning snow event for Yakutat and portions of the northern panhandle December 11th into the 12th. Gusty winds occurred followed by a change over to moderate rain.
