Event narrative

A 515 in the morning of the 30th, a spotter NW of Juneau reported 5 inches of snow since it began around 9pm on the 29th. Another person further up the highway at Yankee Cove estimated that 7 inches had fallen by 724am and was still falling. A COOP observer at Lena Point confirmed what others were seeing with a measurement of 6.8 inches at 920am and another 1 inch falling until mid afternoon. Snow was wet in consistency.

Wider weather episode

A strong low pressure system moving across the Pacific brought a front with embedded shortwaves into Southeast Alaska. While precipitation remained mainly as rain in the southern panhandle, the northern panhandle saw accumulating snow.
