A trained spotter 6 miles northwest of Thorp, Wa measured 9 inches of new snow in a 24 hour period ending at 1200 PST on Dec. 10th. Via social media, a member of the public in Ellensburg, Wa reported 4 inches of new snow at 2132 PST on Dec. 9th.

Wider weather episode

A potent upper level trough impacting the Pacific Northwest placed the region under a moist southwest flow aloft, and combined with a strong cold air pooling along the eastern slopes of the Washington Cascades, resulted in heavy snow occurring in these areas.
