A trained spotter 2 miles northwest of Yakima, Wa measured 5.8 inches of new snow in a 24 hour period ending at 0835 PST on Dec. 10th. Via a public report from Tieton, Wa, 5 inches of new snow was measured at 0550 PST on Dec. 10th.
Wider weather episode
A potent upper level trough impacting the Pacific Northwest placed the region under a moist southwest flow aloft, and combined with a strong cold air pooling along the eastern slopes of the Washington Cascades, resulted in heavy snow occurring in these areas.
