Event narrative

A Cocorahs observer 1 mile south southwest of Trout Lake, WA measured 17.5 inches of new snow in a 24 hour period ending at 0730 PST on Dec. 10th. A trained spotter 22 miles N of White Salmon, WA measured 12.5 inches of new snow at 2135 Dec. 9th.

Wider weather episode

A potent upper level trough impacting the Pacific Northwest placed the region under a moist southwest flow aloft, and combined with a strong cold air pooling along the eastern slopes of the Washington Cascades, resulted in heavy snow occurring in these areas.
