A strong area of low pressure brought strong winds and periods of snow and heavy snow over a 4 plus day period. The bulk of the snow across west central Minnesota fell from late on December 14th through the evening of December 16th, with some of the highest totals including 14.0 inches one mile east of Artichoke Lake, 9.3 inches at Browns Valley, 8.4 inches at Wheaton, and 6 inches 1 mile north of Ortonville.
This storm was severe, widespread and prolonged in nature, lasting from December 12th-16th across the region. Impacts included numerous No Travel Advised or road closures by the Minnesota Department of Transportation, numerous vehicle accidents, and widespread school cancellations.
