Wind chills fell below -40F for about 3 hours with the coldest reading of -42F occurring at Effie.

Cold high pressure built across the region starting the evening of the 28th and continuing through the morning of the 30th. Air temperatures dropped into the 20s and 30s below zero F with very light winds under mainly clear skies. Wind chills in the -40s F were observed across far northern reaches of the region with International Falls reaching -47F the morning of the 29th.
