Event narrative

A CoCoRaHS station near Los Alamos measured 11.5 inches of snow. Various other reports of 3 to 7 inches were reported in and around Los Alamos.

Wider weather episode

An upper low winter storm system tracked over southern portions of New Mexico. Moderate to heavy snow amounts were observed atop the peaks of the southwest mountains, Jemez Mountains, and Sangre de Cristo Mountains from this event. These totals ranged from 10 to 11.5 inches. Already present snow packed and icy roads from prior events were exacerbated by this winter storm event, keeping hazardous winter travel conditions going for many high elevation mountain passes.
