A foot of new snow fell on the North Rim of The Grand Canyon in 24 hours with 59 inches of snow on the ground at 5 PM on 16 January. Another 11 inches of snow fell in the 24 hours ending at 5 PM on 17 January with 69 inches of snow on the ground.
Wider weather episode
A second short wave trough of low pressure moved across northern Arizona with heavy snow, low elevation rain, and strong winds. Snow was still falling form the second wave in eastern Arizona by the time snow started to fall from the third wave in western Arizona.
