Event narrative

Coop snowfall observations in the Tooele Valley ranged from 7 to 14 inches. The Bolinder Field-Tooele Valley Airport ASOS recorded 0.96 inches of snow water equivalent, or approximately 10 inches of snow. In addition, snow at the ASOS was heavy enough to result in a prolonged period of visibility below 2 statute miles.

Wider weather episode

A strong winter storm brought widespread snowfall and winter impacts to much of the forecast region for the start of 2023. Some of the high elevation locations saw snow begin prior to the new year, while most valley locations saw rain switch to snow right around midnight on the new year. Additionally, isolated flash flooding was reported in southern Utah due to rainfall associated with the system.
