Event narrative

Several SNOTEL stations including Parley's Summit, Ben Lomond Trail, and Powder Mountain recorded between around 2.5 to 2.8 inches of snow water equivalent, resulting in approximately 21 to 24 inches of snow. Note that some snow in the high elevations began as early as 12/30/22.

Wider weather episode

A strong winter storm brought widespread snowfall and winter impacts to much of the forecast region for the start of 2023. Some of the high elevation locations saw snow begin prior to the new year, while most valley locations saw rain switch to snow right around midnight on the new year. Additionally, isolated flash flooding was reported in southern Utah due to rainfall associated with the system.
