Multiple instances of downed trees with road closures occurred across Northern Middlesex County as reported by the CT Department of highways. This included a tree with wires down in Durham, CT on Route 79 at Sand Hill Road at 442 AM Local Standard Time, a tree and wires down in Haddam, CT on Route 154 at 701 AM Local Standard Time, and trees with wires down in East Hampton, CT on Route 16 between Skinner and Main Streets at 710 AM Local Standard Time.

A strong low pressure system centered near the eastern Great Lakes Region continued to strengthen as it moved northeast on December 23, 2022. This brought high winds over southern Connecticut that morning as the pressure gradient tightened over the area.
