KGLX Mississippi Canyon reported a wind gust of 34 knots or 39 mph.
Wider weather episode
A cold front associated with an occluding surface low over the upper Midwest pushed through the waters in the early morning hours of January 4th. Along the front, a line of thunderstorms formed and pushed through the waters, bringing winds of over 34 knots. The cold front, and subsequent thunderstorms, exited the outer waters by 12Z.
