The Cloud Peak SNOTEL site had a low temperature of minus 37 on the morning of January 30th.
Wider weather episode
The combination of an Arctic air mass, a clear sky, light wind, and deep snowpack brought record cold temperatures to most of western and central Wyoming. Most of the coldest temperatures occurred in the snow covered basins where low temperatures of minus 30 were commonplace with some areas seeing low temperatures less than 40 below zero. The coldest temperature in the forecast area occurred in Yellowstone Park where Grant Village feel to minus 47 degrees on the morning of January 30th. Wind chills were in the 30 to 40 below range for most basins.
