The Mesonet station OD184 measured a gust of 70 mph at 0817 AM January 9th and the mesonet station AS881 measured a gust of 63 mph at 0531 AM January 9th.
Wider weather episode
A second upper-level shortwave trough(following a prior shortwave on the 8th) in combination with a antecedent transitory ridge of high pressure lead to a tight pressure gradient across the Blue Mountains and strong down-sloping winds as the shortwave moved inland.
