The mesonet station OD184 measured a gust of 74 mph at 0800 PM January 12th and the mesonet station AS881 measured a gust of 66 mph at 0445 AM January 12th.
Wider weather episode
A departing ridge of high pressure and the arrival of a warm-frontal boundary caused a tight surface pressure gradient to develop across the Blue Mountains and strong down-sloping winds.
