The mesonet OD184 measured a gust of 63 mph at 1256 AM January 8th and the mesonet station AS881 measured a gust of 58 mph at 930 PM January 7th.
Wider weather episode
A negatively tilted upper-level shortwave in combination with a ridge of high pressure directly to east of the CWA lead to a tight pressure gradient across the Blue Mountains and strong down-sloping winds.
