Major flooding closed US Highway 101 in both directions in the city of Gilroy, with the closure from Mesa Road to California State Route 25. The closure lasted for around 6 hours before traffic could be reopened.

Wider weather episode

From January 8th to January 9th, a strong atmospheric river led to widespread flooding across the San Francisco Bay Area and Central Coast. This was followed by convection on the 10th that resulted in flash flooding.
