Event narrative

Post-frontal snow showers and a quick temperature drop led to patchy icy conditions on Centre County roadways on the evening of March 29, 2023. This, combined with winds gusting over 40 mph, led to a tractor trailer rollover on the 5500 block of Port Matilda Highway (US Route 322) westbound in Worth Township. The westbound lanes were closed for approximately two and a half hours as a result of the accident.

Wider weather episode

A strong cold front crossed central Pennsylvania during the evening of March 29, 2023, accompanied by a band of rain showers that quickly changed over to snow showers behind the front. Although roads were relatively warm to start, a quick drop in temperatures behind the front caused icy conditions to form in some areas. Wind gusts over 40 mph were observed as well.
