Event narrative

Severely limited visibility and frosty roadways contributed to a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of U.S. Highway 59 and 20 just south of Holstein. An indirect fatality occurred to the driver of a car when it was hit broadside by a semi-truck upon entering the roadway after a stop at the intersection.

Wider weather episode

Persistent fog from the morning into the early afternoon of January 11 resulted in long periods of visibility less than one-quarter mile, as well as deposition of frost on roadways.
