Event narrative

A 55-year-old male tourist was swept away by rip currents at Escondida beach in Fajardo and drowned.

Wider weather episode

Moderate to locally fresh trades and small northerly swell created choppy seas up to 6 feet and occasionally higher across the Atlantic waters. This resulted in life-threatening rip currents along the northern coast of Puerto Rico during the weekend of March 24-26.
