Event narrative

Very wet snow was reported by a trained spotter 7 miles south of Haines beginning around 6pm on the 10th. Snow became heavy by 7pm, measuring a whopping 6 inches by 1030pm. The same spotter measured an additional 3 inches by morning, then changed to rain around 7am. The COOP observer in town had measured 6.1 inches of snow with rain falling by 8am.

Wider weather episode

As one system moved out, another was quick to move into the region with a gale force front. The Haines Chilkat Peninsula saw a period of heavy snow the evening of the 10th followed by a change to rain the next morning.
