Heavy Snow in City and Borough of Juneau, Alaska
Heavy Snow February 24, 2023 – February 25, 2023 · City and Borough of Juneau, Alaska
What the National Weather Service wrote
The climate station at the Juneau Airport measured a record breaking snowfall of 14.3 inches on the 24th and a storm total of 20.6 inches through the next morning. Numerous other spotter reports came in from around Juneau with storm totals ranging from 6 to 12 inches.
The wider storm
Low pressure lingered over the NE gulf with an associated front causing very light, dry snow to fall for over 12 hours. A wave formed along the front causing rates to pick up to warning level rates for another 12 or more hours, particularly on the northeast side of the low as it started tracking SE along the outer coast late on the 24th and into the 25th. The dry consistency of the snow lead to blowing snow and drifting as the front moved across the southern panhandle.
