Event narrative
SR 278 was closed from Carlin to US-50 (88 Mile Stretch). At MM73, Water was reported over the roadway, which caused the highway to collapse (sinkhole). Other areas of flooding were observed, where 12 plus inches of water was reported over the southbound side of the highway. The road remains closed indefinitely.
Wider weather episode
A Multi-Day Warm-Up with temperatures in the 60s, and mid 70s (first 70 degree day of the year) caused melting of mid levels and some mountain level snow. This caused flooding to occur.
