This is a continuation of the winter weather event that started on February 28, 2023. See that edition of Storm Data for the start of this event. A strong short-wave trough lifted through the region as a surface low deepened over South Dakota. This led to heavy snow developing over much of south central North Dakota into the James River Valley during the afternoon and evening of February 28 and continued into March 1. The large area from Huff and Bismarck, through Steele and Napoleon, to Jamestown received at least a foot of snow. The greatest snow amount reported was 14 inches at Jamestown.
