Event narrative

Extreme (D3) drought conditions across the western half of Boyd County, improved to severe (D2) drought conditions by the end of February. Over the remainder of the county, severe (D2) drought conditions persisted through the end of February. Over far northeastern portions of the county, severe (D2) drought conditions improved to moderate (D1) drought by the end of the month. The cooperative observer at Lynch reported 0.44 inches of precipitation for February.

Wider weather episode

Drought conditions improved some in February across the area. The greatest improvements occurred over portions of north central and southwestern Nebraska. In these locations, drought severity improved by one category in February. Elsewhere, drought conditions remained un-changed during the month.
