Event narrative

Severe (D2) drought conditions remained unchanged over northwestern portions of Arthur County through the end of February. Over the remainder of most of the county, extreme (D3) drought conditions improved to severe (D2) drought conditions by the end of the month. The exception was over far southern portions of the county where extreme (D3) drought conditions persisted through the end of February. The cooperative observer at Arthur recorded 0.15 inches of precipitation for February. This was 0.32 inches below the normal of 0.47 inches.

Wider weather episode

Drought conditions improved some in February across the area. The greatest improvements occurred over portions of north central and southwestern Nebraska. In these locations, drought severity improved by one category in February. Elsewhere, drought conditions remained un-changed during the month.
