Event narrative

Buoy 42020 of the National Data Buoy Center (NDBC) reported wind gusts above 34 knots associated with a squall line starting at 1:20PM CDT and lasting until 2:00PM CDT. The highest gust was 51 knots recorded at 1:50PM CDT. Additional gusts of 34 knots or greater were experienced until 6:10PM CDT as a wake low set up behind the squall line.

Wider weather episode

A squall line raced through the Lower Texas Coastal Waters the afternoon of April 23rd. Several of the Texas Coastal Ocean Observing Network (TCOON) sites along with Buoy42020 reported gusts over 34 knots as the line moved through.
