Event narrative

The Texas Coastal Ocean Observing Network (TCOON) site at Rincon del San Jose (RSJT2) reported a measured gust of 43 knots at 1:00AM CDT. The proximity to the coastal waters from Baffin Bay to Port Mansfield out 20 nautical miles coupled with additional wind gusts over 34 knots reported at Buoy 42020 leads credence to the fact this area experienced Marine Thunderstorm Wind gusts as well.

Wider weather episode

A strong cold front barreled through Texas the afternoon of April 28th and spawned a line of showers and thunderstorms. This line of showers and thunderstorms stormed through the Lower Texas Coastal Waters with the highest reported wind gust at Realitos Peninsula with a recorded wind gust of 52 knots, or 60 mph. Most other sites recorded wind gusts between 40 to 50 knots.
