A Colorado low moved through the Central Plains into the Upper Midwest and deepened, resulting in widespread snow and strong winds as high as 50 mph. The combination of the winds, fresh falling snow, and a significant snowpack, led to a blizzard. The highest snow reports were 11 inches in Bottineau County and 13 inches in Stutsman County.
