A line of thunderstorms pushed off the coast and over the Laguna Madre and Coastal Waters early in the morning on May 9th. NOAA's National Ocean Service (NOS) site at Port Isabel (PCGT2) gusted above 34 knots starting at 1:42AM CDT and lasted until 2:00AM CDT with a maximum wind gust of 52 knots. The South Padre Island Coast Guard Station (PCGT2) Texas Coastal Ocean Observing Network (TCOON) gusted to 69 knots at 1:54AM CDT.

An line of thunderstorms came off Cameron County and northeastern Mexico and raced across the Lower Texas Coastal Waters early in the morning of May 9th. Measured gusts at several of the sites near South Padre Island were between 70 to 80 mph, with one gust measured at 89 mph as the line blew through. It continued until all the way through the offshore Gulf waters, where Buoy 42020 experienced wind gusts of 41 knots just before 4 AM CDT.
